Did You Know That CDTA Also Offers MCLE Classes?
The California Desert Trial Academy (CDTA) has served the Coachella Valley in a variety of ways since it was founded in 2012. First and foremost, we brought higher legal education to the Inland Empire.
We’ve also started charitable legal causes such as Project #180, which kept at-risk teens from committing crimes and entering the California juvenile justice system.
CDTA has a direct affiliation with the Desert Center for Legal Education (DCLE), which provides insightful commentary on our justice system while supporting educational commentary on high profile legal issues produced and distributed on radio, television, print, and social media in the Coachella Valley.
But did you know that CDTA also offers Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) classes for California-licensed attorneys?
The California State Bar requires most active attorneys to complete 25 hours of continuing education every three years. These hours must include the following classes and minimum hours:
- Ethics – four hours
- Elimination of Bias – one hour
- Substance Abuse and Competence – one hour
Because the State Bar audits attorney compliance with MCLE requirements, bar members must report to the State Bar every three years according to a schedule determined by the first letter of the member’s last name. Deadlines generally are on February 1st, depending on the schedule.
An attorney who fails to fulfill MCLE requirements may be placed on administrative inactive status. Audited attorneys who have falsely reported compliance may also face discipline from the California State Bar.
CDTA, in association with LawTalk™, offers full-day MCLE courses in substantive legal issues and skills-oriented training throughout the academic year. The school provides all the required MCLE subjects of Ethics, Elimination of Bias, Substance Abuse and Competence. By attending CDTA’s two-day seminar sessions and reviewing the self-study material provided with the registration fee, attorneys may fulfill their entire 25-hour requirement.
Registration for MCLE classes is open to both practicing attorneys and all CDTA students in good standing. The latter may attend any MCLE class as part of their overall tuition.
